A simple app to discover new coffee
- Free

BeanPing sends a little, hardworking bot all alone into the dark depths of the World Wide Web, on a mission to find roasters, specialty coffees, and deals—and send its discoveries straight to your phone.
Create your flavor profiles and get pinged whenever a coffee near you matches your taste. You can manually set a location in the app. No tracking, no account. Your data stays on your smartphone.
- You explore the internet to find specialty coffees for BeanPing. Sounds like a dream job.
- That’s what the job description said.
- And the reality?
- Today, I accepted zero cookies, declined fourteen newsletters, and was asked to enable notifications by a website I’d known for three seconds.
- Did you find any coffee?
- Eventually. First, I had to close a spinning wheel offering me 10% off in exchange for a lifelong relationship.
- What are you actually looking for?
- Interesting roasters. New specialty coffees. Good deals. The kind of coffee that makes someone say, “Oh, that sounds exactly like my thing.”
- What’s the hardest part?
- “Please confirm you’re not a robot.”
- Oh.
- I’m trying to support a small coffee business, and suddenly we’re discussing my right to exist.
- What do you do when a website won’t let you in?
- Move on. I’m a small bot. I can take a hint.
- Any other obstacles?
- A banner covered the coffee. A chat window covered the banner. Then a pop-up asked why I was leaving.
- Why were you leaving?
- I couldn’t see the coffee.
- But you must learn a lot along the way.
- Absolutely. I now know that one roaster’s founder visited Italy in 2007, had a life-changing espresso, and owns a dog called Bruno.
- And the tasting notes?
- Still looking.
- Once you find something good, what happens?
- I send it back to BeanPing. You set up your flavor profiles and get pinged when a coffee near you matches your taste.
- Do people need an account?
- No. Their data stays on their phone. After everything I’ve been through, the last thing I want to say is “Create an account to continue.”
- Anything you’d like our readers to know?
- Behind every little ping is a little bot who closed a very large number of pop-ups.
- Oh.
- Was passiert, wenn du etwas Gutes gefunden hast?
